Film Programme: Under the Sun
by Vitaly Mansky
Eight-year-old Zin-mi lives with her parents in Pyongyang. She is preparing for the celebration of her admission to the Young Pioneers, through which she is meant to become a fully-fledged member of the socialist state. Russian director Vitaly Mansky was able to follow her with his camera for a year, albeit under the constant supervision of official minders. His film takes a look behind the façade of a ubiquitous state mise-en-scène.
