Maarja Nuut’s tone may be lyrical. But it is also contemporary. Her singing manages to be both light and direct, while her violin produces an evocative atmosphere. Her solo violin is enough to accompany the divine high notes of her singing, sometimes leading the melody, sometimes merely as background. Nuut’s loop pedal is the final contribution to the expansive sound heavy with mood that is so characteristic for this moderniser of Europe’s traditional music.
