Family drama about bitter certainties

Evelyn lives with her parents Stephen and Annette in Cape Town. Unspoken conflicts smoulder under a crumbling exterior, unfulfilled desires and mutual mistrust hang in the air. Evelyn is left feeling alone with her failed attempts to be close to her mother. And projects her desires onto the third person in the family circle – onto Aunt Jaz, Annette’s more affectionate sister. Evelyn idolises her in order to get what she cannot get from her less present mother. Until the web of relationships starts to get intertwined and uncomfortable truths are brought to light. With Bowers adaptation of the short story Jungfrau by Mary Watson, which won the 2006 Caine Prize for African Writing, we take a look behind the closed doors of a family fighting for honesty, intimacy and trust.

Jade Bowers was the 2017 winner of the Naledi Award in the Best Director category and was named Young Artist for Theatre by the Standard Bank in 2016 for her outstanding talent.
