“A Bug on a Rug in a Building”, this is a title of one of the songs on Sophia Kennedy’s eponymous debut album. It reveals quite a modernist-situationist love for language and rhythm. She sings like a super-star crooner and her arrangements are somewhere between concert pop and the sculpture with the lop-sided smile “Mon Ami Pierrot” by Max Ernst. She comes from the Hamburg aristocratic family von and zu Poodle-Poodle. As a theatre musician, she has worked for the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Theater Leipzig. This music pours coolly and slowly out of a soft ice-cream machine.
