A collective odyssey
A four and a half hour emotional rollercoaster. A play that erases the distance between an ancient story and life today, and in the process well and truly gets under the audience’s skin. Odisseiatells the story of Odysseus’ journey from the perspective of the characters who encounter him: Telemachus, the son he left behind; the nymph Calypso, who offers him immortality and eternal love; the witch Circe, who leads him to the world of the dead; the goddess Athena, who starts a war for him; and Penelope, his waiting wife. The odyssey will lead us from ostentatious adventures to intimate insights. The inhibitions, worries and fears of everyday life in the 21st century meet the unbroken relevance of this ancient epic about fidelity, love and loss.
The director Leonardo Moreira is one of the most promising and well-known theatre-makers in Brazil. He founded the Companhia Hiato in São Paulo, with which he has created award-winning works for the stage.
