The Candlestickmaker

Duration: appr. 90 minutes, one interval

There is a war of giants going on inside the microcosm of an Indian family. Uncle Rohan is determined to bring the entire universal structure into harmony with his mind-blowing astrophysical theories, while in the kitchen housekeeper Kalyanis proven principle rules: a simple red-fish curry is all that is needed to keep the world in balance. As the battle about whether true happiness lies in the achievements of science or in the small things of life reaches its climax, Sunil, a young student, stumbles into the house and respectfully throws new questions into the pot. The search for happiness has many possible paths and we all know how difficult it is to choose. Actor and mask artist Jacob Rajan presents this dilemma with amazing ingenuity: he changes smoothly and convincingly from one character into another, swaps masks and bodies and allows the audience a glimpse of the workings of the universe. Until a simple-minded duck gets in his way and threatens to disturb the equilibrium of gravity.

In English with German subtitles.
There will be an audience talk after the performance on 7 June. Admission free.
