THE PERSIANS

500 citizens have signed up to take part in this project since January. Rehearsals started in May. Click here for up-dates.

Dear audience,

the festival THEATERFORMEN returns to its point of origin with a truly amazing programme: with the oldest known tragedy in theatre history, a world premiere, a chorus of 500 citizens from Braunschweig and the region and a six-hour-long theatre marathon, the festival really lives up to its name. The festival THEATERFORMEN presents the diversity of international contemporary theatre. Eleven extraordinary productions and artists from Argentina, Austria, Canada, Chile, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iran, the Republic of Moldavia, New Zealand, Poland and Uzbekistan are bringing their stories and theatrical worlds to your stages.

My team and I are would like to invite you to discover these stages, some in unfamiliar places: at the Rebenpark, the wichmannHalle, inside a cake and also in a theatre shack right in the city centre.

The actions of human beings wielding power and their own desires and passions are at the centre of both the eternally young classic tragedies and the new plays and projects in the public space. The International Theatre Workshop invites you to lectures and discussions about European theatre and its relationship to democracy.

I hope you will experience an exciting and passionate THEATERFORMEN 2008!

Yours sincerely,
Stefan Schmidtke
Artistic director
