Whoever wanders into the foyer of the Schaupielhaus, will be welcomed by a large blue playing field holding promises of a better life. Europoly applies the principles of Monopoly to the situation of immigrants seeking their fortune in the EU. Here the emphasis is not on streets you own, but literally on your professional prowess. The aim of the game: EU citizenship. Visitors can observe Europoly as an exhibit or can place themselves as a pawn on „GO“. That is where the struggle begins: for jobs, registration forms, medical insurance - and for recognition. „You still don’t speak German, after two years?“ That will be expensive. With any luck they may recognise your degree or else you may receive 50 €. Invest wisely, become a politician or try your luck as a prostitute. Would you perhaps like to acquire a designer handbag? While you show it off, don't neglect to call in your debts from the other players! The Belgrade-born artist Dejan Kaludjerović, now lives in Vienna. With tangible wit he has created Europoly. Drawing from his own experiences, he makes the ubiquitous issues of immigration and integration playfully visible and experiential.
