The character of the world-fixer (Weltverbesserer) takes a unique role in Thomas Bernhards dramatic works. Like many of Bernhards protagonists, he is an incurable misanthropist- a smug private scholar, mercilessly ironic and determined to confront each and everyone with his thoughts on how to fix the world. What makes the world-fixer so unique is his human weakness. The production of the Prague Chamber Theatre is set up like a psychological experiment: the youngest protagonist of the ensemble plays the lead role.
Dramatic mini-situations, which evolve from the interaction with the largely silent female character, turn the play into a psychological diagram which unfolds slowly and surprises with turns and relapses. The final showdown with the unpopular representatives of the university and the city definitely gives Bernhards comedy a serious ending. For his role as the world-fixer, Martin Finger received the Alfrd Radok Award in the category Actor of the Year 2006.
