Melanie Zimmermann takes over the artistic direction for new dance festival in Hanover

A new chapter for the dance scene in Hanover: We warmly congratulate Melanie Zimmermann on her position as the artistic director of the new dance festival in Hanover!

With Melanie Zimmermann, the annual festival gains a widely networked artistic director with many years of curatorial experience in the contemporary dance scene. Since 2010, she has worked as a dramaturge and curator at Kampnagel in Hamburg, where she was co-responsible for the dance program as well as for several major dance events such as the German Dance Platform 2014 or the Biennale Tanzausbildung 2020. In recent years she has been supporting especially disabled artists as well as representatives of Black Dance Culture.

Melanie Zimmermann says about her new task: "I am very much looking forward to my first leadership role in Hanover, to the city itself, and to getting to know its communities and artists. As a festival team, we are following in Christiane Winter and her team's footsteps, and want to lead it with vigor and enthusiasm into the future. We will show dance in all its various facets, present it in its artistic and social dimensions, and make visible how broad the concept of choreography can be."

The first edition of the dance festival will take place from 24 to January 28, 2024 in the venues of the Staatstheater Hannover. The new dance festival will be docked onto the structure of the Theaterformen festival, where the responsibility for its organization will lie - artistically, both festivals are and will remain independent.

Melanie Zimmermann is now starting to work on an artistic concept and a name for the new festival. A new corporate design and website will be developed. This, together with the program, is expected to be published in November 2023.
