Sweet Spot (site specific)
Harald Beharie
Oslo
The prison as the gates to hell, the gates to hell as a Sweet Spot – in Harald Beharie’s latest production, this intermediate space becomes a restless terrain: bodies contort and stretch, collective bodies form and collapse joyfully again. Nordic folklore is bent, stretched and distorted, contradictory moods meet on the threshold between life and death. Taking as a starting point the Norwegian word Leikarring, a circle dance in which the dancers hold onto to each other’s hands as well as to the legends of violin players who couldn’t stop playing, Sweet Spot becomes a state of constant transformation: figures rove around between abandon and care, between breaking free and standing still. Fleeting fictions around the queer body open up a space for rituals, new ways of living together and a strange form of play.
Harald Beharie is a Norwegian-Jamaican performer and choreographer who lives in Oslo, Norway. In their choreographic work, which is defined by the attempt to dissect established narratives about the body, Beharie explores alternative forms of togetherness and questions concepts of normativity. They are interested in the raw, the homemade and vulnerability, which brings the unknown with it. Beharie works with other artists in various constellations and contexts, and uses dance as a medium to create spaces of ambivalence and fantasy that are hard to grasp. In 2025, Festival Theaterformen presented the group work Undersang in the Deister, which unfolded a collective ritual in the woods.
