In this show that’s sure to be a hit, The Filipino Superwoman Band, the ensemble including Eisa Jocson, Bunny Cadag, Cathrine Go, Teresa Barrozo and Franchesca Casauay, explores the phenomenon of overseas Filipino musicians:  Filipino performers and entertainers whose livelihood is performing Western music for audiences in the entertainment industry across the Asian continent. With flowing manes and intense power, The Filipino Superwoman Band takes us along on a musical journey that sheds light on the often-overlooked reality of life for working migrants. The heart of their repertoire is Karyn White’s hit “Superwoman”, which they make their own as a hymn to self-empowerment. Ranging from emotional ballads to powerful pop, the performance repertoire invites us to reflect on emotional labour, economic exploitation, and colonial dynamics. Singing along is most definitely allowed!

Eisa Jocson is a contemporary choreographer, dancer and visual artist. Her work focuses on body politics and the entanglements of isolated workers in global socio-economic power relations. In her works, which range from pole dance to macho dance to hostess work, capital is the driving force behind the movement that pushes the body into spatial geographies. With her performances, Eisa Jocson questions the vulnerability of overworked, abused bodies, their postcolonial representation in pop culture and gender roles.
