The Last Supper

MEXA

São Paulo

The MEXA collective was founded in 2015 after outbreaks of gender-specific violence in shelters for homeless people. At a last supper together, they think about the end of their group, interweaving their life stories with the idea of death and resurrection from the Bible and Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, “The Last Supper”. How can you create an image that can continue to exist when you are no longer around? What responsibility do those who are left behind have? In the end, there is a promise to continue telling the stories of others as new evangelists. An explosive moment of being united and the renewal of the oath to solidarity.

MEXA was created in 2015 after episodes of gender violence in some shelter homes in São Paulo. Since its genesis, the collective explores and debates the distances and proximities between the street and the museum, life and art, politics and aesthetics through improvisational strategies, biodrama, documentary theater and collective creation.
