The bovination of the world cannot be stopped
We fly to all-inclusive hotels at absolute bargain prices, form disciplined queues at the buffet and dutifully walk between miles of Yellow Lines to flight check-in – only to avoid disturbing the optimised processes. Paul can't be bothered with all-you-can-eat and happy hour anymore; he stays in his hotel room with his laptop and encounters Yvonne, the cow. She is wandering through the media because she has defected from her herd and gone into hiding. Through the Internet, Paul learns that magic word is called “herd management” and that it is used to extract the greatest possible efficiency with complete satisfaction of needs and lowest possible use of energy not only in livestock. Yvonne has Paul's sympathy! Paul wants to set an example against the bovination of the world and charters a plane. The dream of flying: the world from above, the use of common sense to free oneself from dependencies - the spirit of Enlightenment, the credo of technical progress, the formula for success of the western world. Where do we stand today? Juli Zeh and Charlotte Roos have tackled this question within the framework of the cooperation project Achtung: Pioniere! between the Staatstheater Braunschweig and the z|k|m| Zagreb. The result of this commissioned piece is an intelligent grotesque about the contradictions of our modern world.
